My Daughters, My Muses
9:39 PM
Ever since my girls were little, I've always looked for one excuse or another to dress them up and play pretend photoshoot. I would torture them for hours on end with posing and changing outfits...by the time they were teens, they had had enough. Suffice it to say, those sessions became far and few between lol. They are now young adults and, although looking back at those photos of crooked pigtails and mismatched "Punky Brewster" outfits make them cringe, they actually do have my back and will relent to my endless begging....eventually. With their support, I find that I am able to delve in more and more into the fascinating world of photography.
Last year, I started out as a total novice. Just holding an SLR camera made me uneasy, especially when it came to understanding all of the buttons and dials. Learning all about lighting, angles, perspective, composures was a taaaaad overwhelming, especially in light of the fact that you can never tell what really goes into what it takes to shoot a great image, fuhget about editing and all that rigamarole.....phew, lmao! So, I decided to set a goal; take a course and learn something fun for a change. My family has been behind me all the way. I can count the number of sessions my girls have actually agreed to, but when they do, I learn something new each and every time, whether it be about them, myself or my tools (and lack thereof). This year, my new goal is to hone in and really wet my feet. The ultimate plan is to become a professional by way of experience and knowledge. Even though I find myself growing more comfortable, I know that there is still so very much to learn. I don't even know what kind of photographer I am, much less if I want to focus on just one specialty or not. Perhaps its because I feel so enthralled with every aspect or maybe its my need to know everything...so far, what I DO know is that I started out wanting to learn all about wedding photography, and now I am all about shooting portraiture in a not-so-average-way. Building a fresh take on family and children portraits while making it a fun experience for both the sitter and myself. I am soooo confident that by December, I will have it all together and be ready to start 2016 with a big bang. For now, I just want to share the latest of my girls so I can go on and continue watching more videos and tutorials!
