Can we tawk? Yesssss, ok...so lets discuss how fabulous you are going to look for your portrait shoot! What are you going to wear, you ask?! You have nothing to wear, you say?! Well, can I just tell you a secret? There is no secret. The answer is simple: your portrait shoot will be as glammed up as you want it to be, keeping in mind that less is always more. Lets go over some ideas, but first-
cream? sugar? ;-)
No really, its hard enough deciding to book a shoot, make time for the shoot, decide WHY you are booking the shoot, and most importantly what to wear for your shoot. Never fear, I got you! During our Pre Session Consult, we will chat about a couple of things to consider, such as location (indoors, in my studio or on-location at a park, woods, beach, landmark, etc) outfit options and what "LOOK" you are going for by asking what the purpose of your shoot is, that is, without stating the obvious for a headshot or personal branding shoot, where one would wear professional and/or business casual attire. Conversely, booking a "Glamour" shoot does not automatically mean ballgown, diamond choker, red lipstick-unless YOU want it to be. Another important factor to consider is if you're booking a Couples shoot, where we don't want matchy-matchy but we do want cohesive styling. Also, think about your home decor, for example, your color scheme and styling and how your portrait will tie in with your home to make a beautiful and artistic addition. In terms of clothing, I'd say the only exception for me would be the following;
- SWEATS, which I am deathly allergic to, that and wearing pajama bottoms at the CVS!!!
- STRIPES, close your eyes (if you'll indulge me for a second) and just imagine the last time you saw a professional portrait of someone wearing stripes....lol
- SNEAKERS, um, 'nuff said (unless its a sports, workout portrait session-again, professional setting for a specific reason)
Furthermore, even if you're wearing your favorite tee and jeans, you will feel and look amazing because your shoot will be all about the star of the show, YOU! If you really are looking for some concepts and ideas about what to wear on your portrait shoot, think Vanity Fair editorial portrait style, where the focus is on your gorgeous eyes, your bouncy hair and your puckered lip, (some heels may be required). We can brainstorm some conceptual ideas and incorporate them into your shoot. For example, one of my upcoming shoots will be of a ballet dancer theme. No matter how we style your session, the key element will always be your comfort and your smile! In the meantime, just remember, we will have plenty of time to decide what to wear for your portrait shoot waaaaay before the session date. You could be wearing a potato sack, but hot damn! you surely will rock that burlap, won't you?! lol
